The purpose of the Music Ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church is to glorify God and lead the church to worship through music and to provide the congregation with a meaningful worship and musical experience.
You are invited to join us as we grow in faith, worship, and praise. We welcome people who have a love of music and a willingness to commit to a vital and dedicated music program.
The Chancel Choir is the primary worship choir of our church, singing each Sunday, using music as a medium to lead worshippers in praise to God. Several times each year the choir also performs larger programs or works at Christmas, Easter, or special events and concerts. The Chancel Choir rehearses each Wednesday evening. There is always a need for new singers in the Chancel Choir as singers “retire”, move from the area, or have schedule changes and can no longer participate. Choir candidates should be able to match basic pitch, and sing harmony. The Chancel Choir is for adults. The Chancel Choir is directed by Jerry Naff.
The Westminster Ringers handbell choir is our premiere instrumental group. The choir rings three octaves of Schulmerich handbells, choir chimes, as well as Orff and other percussion instruments. Ringers should be able to read basic music and have good counting ability. The rehearsal time for the Westminster Ringers is Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Contact Jerry Naff to express your interest in becoming part of this outstanding group. The Westminster Ringers is for ages youth through adults.
The Cherub Choir is our pre-school choir for ages 4 and 5. This group rehearses on Sunday mornings from 9:00- 9:30 a.m. in room 214. Music fundamentals and basic hymns and songs of our faith are taught each week. This group sings in worship a few times each year and performs special programs. The Cherub Choir is directed by Barbara Montaldi.
The Celebration Singers is our children’s choir for grades 1-3. This group rehearses on Sunday mornings in room 100 from 9:00-9:30 a.m. before Sunday school. The Celebration singers sing in our worship services several times each year. In choir, music fundamentals are taught, as well as concepts of music in worship and hymnody. This year our Celebration Singers will be learning music fundamentals through the Orff teaching method. Carl Orff was a 20th-cetury German composer who developed a “natural and friendly” method of teaching children the language of music much like they learned a language to speak and communicate. The children will be playing Orff instruments such as the metallophone, glockenspiel and xylophone as part of this process. The Celebration Singers are directed by Emily White.
The Westminster Singers, grades 4-6, rehearses Sunday mornings in room 102 from 9:00-9:30 a.m. They study, more in detail, hymnody, Kodaly, and Orff methods and begin to sing multi-part choral music, primarily SA. The Westminster Singers are directed by Evelyn Kiser.
The Chapel Choir, grades 7-12, rehearses Sunday mornings in room 102 from 9:00-9:30 a.m. They continue to build on the fundamentals taught in earlier choirs and concentrate more on choral singing, especially multi-part such as, SA, SAB, and SATB. The Chapel Choir is directed by Jerry Naff.
